Abstract
The article discusses the phenomenon of neighborhood community in a Balkan city, taking the case of Pristina, Kosovo. In a multiethnic community, the neighborhood (as a social category) has been the primary condition of, and source for, interaction, mutual acquaintance, and cooperation which helped to establish the feeling of acceptance of "other" cultures and religions, and even partnership at the times of both peace and war. Today, the memories and reminiscences of peaceful coexistence play a significant role in the oral narratives of both Albanians and Serbs, the majority of whom were forced to leave Kosovo in 1999 and 2004.
